Je t’aime (2003)
by Isabelle Aboulker (b. 1938)
Je t’aime was written by Isabelle Aboulker, one of the most engaging of present-day French composers, specifically to display both the extraordinary vocal technique and the interpretative wit of Patricia Petibon. A brilliant parody of the early 19th century operatic aria, it begins and ends with extravagant displays of coloratura and includes a lament which mercilessly exposes the bad habits all too common in music of its kind.
