What are you doing New Year’s Eve?
by Frank Loesser (1910–1969)
There are many familiar examples of Christmas songs in the popular repertoire but no more than one or two which celebrate the New Year. It took the genius of Frank Loesser, composer of several successful Broadway musicals including Guys and Dolls, to create one as seductive as What are you doing New Year’s Eve?, which became an Ella Fitzgerald speciality.
