Sonata in B flat major for piano duet, K.358
Movements
Allegro
Adagio
Molto presto
The other Salzburg sonata was written two years later than its companion. Again there is an advance, as is evident in the exposition of the first movement, in the more pronounced individuality of the thematic material and in the contrapuntal and rhythmic enterprise associated with the second subject. the melodic material of the E flat major Adagio is particularly distinguished and it is a pity, after his experience of the beginnings of equality in the Andante of the D major Sonata, that the second pianist has such a small share in it. There is little development in either of the first tow movements but mozart’s continuing interest in the syncopations of the Molto presto second subject - a reflection of the displaced accents in the first movement - is some compensation.
